Welcome to Salt Studios
Since 2001 we have been at the forefront
of the Melbourne music scene.

Salt Live

Salt Live

Salt Studios recorded its first live performance at the Duke Of Windsor Hotel in Melbourne back in January of 2003. Since then over 1500 concerts, featuring many Australian and international acts have been recorded around Australia, the US, Canada and Europe.

Salt quickly gained a reputation for quality production and a professional approach. From our early humble beginnings we have grown both in terms of our engineering pool and project management team to using the best available studio quality equipment for all our location recordings. The results speak for themselves. We are now one of the most highly regarded live recording companies in the country.

Salt prides itself on the quality of the final product and introduced various innovations which benefit the performing artists in ways never done before. We pioneered Australia’s first Instant live CD service allowing fans to pre or post order a copy of a live recording on CD or purchase it  immediately at the end of an artists performance. This service has become extremely popular and International artists such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Clutch and Jeff Martin along with local acts Something for Kate, Tim Rogers, Weddings Parties Anything and Tex Perkins have all been the Instant CD’s service beneficiaries.

LOCATION RECORDING

Salt Studios offers several location recording packages at prices to suit everyone. Whether you are a full band wanting to capture the energy of a live performance or a solo artist needing a live recording for promotional purposes we can tailor a system specifically for your needs. Our base rig is a 32 input Pro Tools TDM system comprising of an Apple Mac computer and Display, 2 x digidesign 1622 i/o’s, 32 preamps, a digidesign USD (Universal Slave Driver) and a 4 output headphone amplifier. All equipment is road-cased and very portable and can be set up very easily either at the FOH mixing console or side of stage.  Pro Tools HD: We have a Pro Tools HD3 System available which comprises of an Apple Mac computer and Display, a road cased Digidesign 96i interface (for monitoring) and a headphone amplifier. This rig is designed to be connected directly to a Digidesign D-Show console via Digilink cables. The advantage of this system is the simplicity of the set up which requires minimal patching. Gain structure is configured automatically within the D-Show console. It is a case of literally connecting the computer, creating your Pro Tools session and hitting record.
