Welcome to Salt Studios
Since 2001 we have been at the forefront
of the Melbourne music scene.

Studios

Salt Studios is situated in the heart of Melbourne’s bay side area. All our  studios have been architecturally designed and purpose built for sound production. They offer a comfortable environment where the artist can relax, enjoy the recording process and create. Some of the finest vintage and analog recording equipment is available, and is maintained on a regular basis so valuable studio time is never wasted. All amenities are close by with numerous cafes and restaurants right at the front door. High speed Internet access is available throughout the facility. Over the years, Salt Studios and its engineers have been responsible for numerous great sounding recordings, many of which gained chart success upon their release.

Salt Studios

Studio A combines the best of analog and digital and features an array of the finest vintage and modern recording equipment available. Designed to be a highly flexible recording/mixing suite, Studio A is a comfortable and inspirational recording environment for both the musician and engineer.

The heart of the studio is a 40 input Amek Hendrix analog recording console, fully restored to it’s original glory by Colin Abrahams.  The console has an easy to understand signal flow and features Amek’s famous “classic British” pre-amps and EQ. A Pro Tools HD 3  system handles all tracking duties and when it’s time to  mix engineers have a choice of mixing through the console for an all-analog signal path or keeping the sessions totally “in the box” while utilising the console as an analog summing mixer. Either way you have the option of using our extensive range of plug-ins from SSL, Waves, Sony Oxford, Focusrite and Digidesign as well as various choice pieces of outboard equipment from Avalon, DBX, Lexicon and Empirical Labs  giving the engineer an unlimited amount of possibilities for recording and mixing.

Monitoring options consist of Event Opal (fully calibrated for Studio A’s acoustics), Focal Solo6Be and Yamaha NS10. Studio A’s control room has an extremely accurate frequency response with many clients  commenting on how great the room sounds. This enables engineers to quickly get a mix that transfers to other listening environments accurately. The recording space features natural light and flexible acoustics with two isolated recording booths adjoined. Salt’s mic collection includes models by: Neumann, Coles, AKG, Shure and others.

Salt Studios

Studio B is a purpose built suite that houses a range of high end music production tools. It is ideal for mixers, producers, composers and engineers who require a professional and cost effective environment to work from. This “self drive” concept means that an in house engineer is not always required.

The centre piece of Studio B is an SSL Nucleus control surface and interface featuring SSL’s ‘Super Analog’ mic preamps and a very intuitive method of controlling almost every parameter within your session. The studio is equipped with  all major DAW’s including Pro Tools, Logic, Abelton Live, Reason and Record as well as a vast array of plugins and virtual instruments from Waves, SSL, Antares, Native Instruments and Digidesign. This makes it very easy for an artist or engineer who may have recorded basic tracks either at home or in another studio to put the finishing touches to their project in a more accurate listening environment. Monitoring is provided by Focal Solo6Be’s which we have found to be a perfect match for the room. Studio B is a very comfortable work space with natural light and easy access to all other amenities within the facility.
